Very nice, very large handmade basket. Likely African or Native American but I can't be sure. It's 17 across with a big leather strap to carry it with. I'd think it would be great for harvesting berries or a similar delicate crop that you wouldn't want to crush in a deeper basket. There is a small hole in center and the material is a bit frayed there but still in strong stable condition. Today one could use it for carrying garments to and from the wash.

It could also be used to eat off of during a picnic. Gathering lightweight kindling could also be a use. I'm sure there's plenty of other uses I'm not thinking of.

There are threaded brass studs holding the strap to the basket. One is missing in each side but the strap is still securely in place. One could easily add another fastener in each side if they sourced the correct type.

Condition is very good for its age. I'd think it was made 50-100 years ago. It came out of an estate with one of the neatest antique collections I've ever seen.
