This is a Fascinating and Very Cool RARE Vintage African American Modern Black AFRO FUTURISM Abstract Lithograph on paper, by the seldomly seen California - Utah African American Modernist painter and printmaker, Karl Joseph McIntosh 1940 - 2009. This artwork depicts the Expressionist profile image of a truculent and confident Black woman, wearing an ornate ear adornment and portrayed in deep purple hues. This image is straight out of Blade Runner (1982) or Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2022. The main subject sticks out her lips in confident defiance, while her earring appears to be comprised from multiple machine parts and futuristic gizmos.

Below her profile, a small, seated boy's portrait is rendered in an expressive and Modernist manner. Titled in pen: "1936 - 21" in the lower left corner, and hand signed and dated in the lower right corner: Karl McIntosh'74. Approximately 8 1/4 x 18 3/8 inches including frame.

Actual visible artwork is approximately 6 1/2 x 16 5/8 inches. Very good condition for age, with mild scuffing and edge wear to the original period vintage aluminum frame please see photos. Please note that there is another African American artist, born in Jamaica, who is known by virtually the same name Karl A.

McIntosh and was born in 1941. That artist is a self-taught and naive painter on the East Coast, reminiscent of Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden. This is not THAT guy.

These two Black American artists have become intertwined on cyberspace due to their similar name, ethnicity and birthdate. This artwork was acquired from an old collection in Pasadena, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
