Vintage Mid Century Modern Black African American Cubist Oil Painting, LEE

  

This is a fascinating and thought-provoking Vintage Mid Century Modern Black African American Abstract Cubist Oil Painting on canvas, by Deep Gap, North Carolina modernist painter, William E. I could not find any information on this artist, but perhaps you know more about him or his work? This piece depicts an abstracted and otherworldly scene of various organically rendered colorful and cubistic shapes, and the portraits of two African American figures. One figure in the lower left edge of the scene wears a large coat and has a shy facial expression.

The figure on the right has white, dreadlocked hair, and closes his eyes. He is depicted in profile and has a sense of wisdom which is imbued in his portrayal. Lee in the lower right corner.

Additionally, there is an old exhibition label affixed to the verso which reads: William E. Approximately 18 1/2 x 22 inches. Good condition for age, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the canvas please see photos.
